Accessibility Statement

What we have done, and what is not good enough yet. Both belong on this page.

We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA. The platform has not been independently audited, so this is a statement of effort rather than a claim of compliance.

Nothing moves, nothing flashes and nothing autoplays. Everything works with a keyboard.

Known gaps: no audit yet, no transcripts on audio, no dark mode, and no description on the compass diagram.

1 · What we aim for

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA. We have not had the platform independently audited, so this is a statement of intent and of current effort rather than a claim of compliance. An audit is planned.

Some of this matters more here than on an ordinary website. People arrive at Exist Better tired, in pain, distracted or distressed, and a page that is hard to read is a page that fails at the moment it is needed.

2 · What we have done

Type that can be resizedText is set in relative sizes and the layout reflows rather than breaking. Body text sits at seventeen or eighteen pixels with generous line spacing, above the usual default.

ContrastText and background combinations are chosen to meet the AA contrast ratio. Where a decorative colour would have failed it, the colour changed.

KeyboardEvery button, link and field can be reached and used with a keyboard alone, in a sensible order, and the focused element is visible.

Real HTMLHeadings are headings and buttons are buttons, so a screen reader announces the page as it is structured rather than guessing.

Touch targetsAnything you tap is at least forty-four pixels tall. Tapping a field does not zoom the page on an iPhone.

No motionThere are no animations, no autoplaying video, no carousels and nothing that moves on its own. Nothing on the platform flashes.

Voice instead of typingFree-text questions can be dictated rather than typed, which helps if typing is difficult or painful. This depends on your browser: where dictation is unreliable the control does not appear, because a button that fails halfway through a sentence is worse than none. Your device's own dictation works in every field regardless.

Plain languageClinical terminology is avoided throughout, and not only in the legal pages. If a friend would not say it, we try not to write it.

3 · What is not good enough yet

Said plainly, because you should know before you meet it.

No independent auditEverything above has been checked by us, not by a specialist and not with the help of disabled testers. That is the most significant gap and it is the next thing we intend to fix.

The compass diagramThe six-pillar diagram on your reading is visual. Every value it shows is also written out beside it in words, so nothing is only in the picture, but the diagram itself carries no useful description.

Long documentsThe legal pages are long. They have proper headings, which helps, but there is no way to jump between sections yet.

Audio materialAudio recordings do not have transcripts. Anything we publish from now on will have one, and the existing recordings need doing.

No dark modeThe platform is one warm light theme. Some people find a dark theme easier and we have not built one.

4 · If something is in your way

Tell us. hello@existbetter.online, with as much or as little detail as you like: what you were trying to do, what happened, and what you use to browse if you know it.

We reply within five working days. If something is stopping you using the platform, we will tell you what we are going to do about it and when, and if we cannot fix it quickly we will find another way to get you what you needed.
